Wildstar, a new generation of MMORPG?

Wildstar is the new flagship MMORPG brought to you by the developers at NCsoft (Guild Wars series, Lineage, Aion). By offering an updated style of MMORPG that has moved on from the traditional World of Warcraft mechanics, Wildstar is an extremely effective and well-developed game that doesn’t overstep the boundaries.

A well-designed world packed with entertainment

Wildstar takes us to the ruthless world of Nexus, on which the two factions -The Dominion and The Exiles- are in conflict. In addition to being well developed and original, the game world has a certain element of comedy, with its dialogues and exquisite screenplay.

The two factions in the game each offer 5 different races, 6 classes, and 4 different paths to choose from. As the developers are clearly leaning towards a more flexible style of MMORPG it is suffice to say that the choices are numerous. Furthermore, choosing a class doesn’t necessarily limit you to one style of gameplay. Medics, for example, can be just as effective in dealing damage as any other class in the game. This comes as good news, although it’s still important to seriously think about your character before embarking on the challenging group missions.

As for the competitive multiplayer aspect, the Warplot mode offers an excellent option (in addition to the conventional capture the flag and pvp arena modes) with epic 40 v 40 battles where players must build and defend a fortress.

Dynamic combat

One way in which Wildstar excels above the rest is through the gameplay’s dynamic combat. Having moved on from the rugged combat system of World of Warcraft, Wildstar offers a more action-based style of combat. Characters can gain tactical advantages based on their position; they have the ability to jump and sprint, and more importantly, the majority of skills require the player to aim and use a targeting system. Combining all these features, Wildstar offers a pleasantly up to date and interesting combat experience.

Unfortunately, I  can’t say the same about the interface, where the user is forced to navigate through poorly thought out, sprawling menus. Fortunately, NCsoft has had the good sense to include a mod system for Wildstar, allowing you to customize the gaming experience based on your personal preferences while also being able to enjoy other players’ contributions. Although it may be difficult to prevent players exploiting mods in competitive multiplayer modes, it’s still a great idea.

A riot of color

With its constant flourish of colors and cartoonish appearance, Wildstar clearly resembles a modernized version of World of Warcraft. Nevertheless, the developers have made ??a significant effort with the aesthetics of the characters, all of which are very well animated with visually attractive and original features. The only regret is that the characters succumb to the same old video game clichés, with overly muscular male characters and large bosomed female characters.

A great MMORPG that lacks audacity

This Wildstar is already a hit in the MMORPG world. Employing humor, friendly aesthetics, and a challenging yet dynamic combat system, this NCsoft release seems to have what it takes to win over the fans of the genre. All in all, Wildstar is a solid game that brings together traditional MMORPG components while leaving room for innovation.
